What is Genetic Counseling in cancer?

Genetic counseling in cancer is a communication process that helps cancer patients and/or their families adapt to the medical, psychological, and familial implications of genetic and genomic contributions to cancer and cancer syndromes.

Who are Cancer Genetic Counselors?

Cancer genetic counselors are specialists who provide personalized care for your cancer genetic health.

When to see a cancer genetic counselor?

Cancer occurs at age 50 or younger.
Patient has 2 or more primary cancers.
Patient has a rare form of cancer.
There is a history of cancer in one side of the family.

What are the services offered by the Genetics Section of GCCI?

General genetic counseling

Pharmacy

In GCCI, the Pharmacy adheres to the standards outlined in USP 800 to provide accurate, safe, and sterile compounded chemotherapy drugs. These chemotherapy drugs are compounded in a Biological Safety Cabinet Class II in a controlled room to minimize environmental exposure. The Pharmacy also uses Closed System Transfer Devices (CSTD) that mechanically prohibits the transfer of environmental contaminants into the system and the escape of the hazardous drug or vapor concentrations outside the system.

Together with the Medical Oncologist, the Pharmacist helps with the computation of the dose adjustments needed for an individual patient. Equipped with the required knowledge and training, Chemotherapy Compounding is done by a Licensed Pharmacist. Chemotherapy drugs or Antineoplastic drugs are used for the treatment of cancer. Every patient has their own dose for every treatment. Hence, these drugs are compounded according to the patient’s needed treatment. Chemotherapy compounding is the process of combining, mixing, or altering chemotherapy drugs tailored to the needs of an individual patient.
